Enalkiren (A-64662; ABBOTT-64662) is a potent and hybrid dipeptide renin inhibitor that mimics the transition state of the human renin substrate, angiotensinogen. Enalkiren has been shown to produce dose-related suppression of plasma renin activity (PRA) and angiotensin II when administered intravenously. It is used in treating cogenstive heart failure. It has been shown to cause a prolonged reduction in blood pressure and may emerge as a useful therapeutic agent for the treatment of hypertension.
