AVE-0991 is a novel, orally bioactive non-peptide mimic and high affinity agonist of angiotensin-(1-7) (IC50 o=21 nM) with important cardioprotective bioactivity. In normal hearts, AVE-0991 produced a significant decrease in perfusion pressure and an increase in systolic tension, rate of tension rise and fall (+/-dT/dt), and heart rate.
