Methyl mycophenolate is the methyl ester of mycophenolic acid and an impurity of Mycophenolate mofetil which is a prodrug of mycophenolic acid (MPA). It is a naturally occuring compound isolated from marine-derived fungus Phaeosphaeria spartinae and acts as an inhibitor of inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH).
