性质描述: 无色针状结晶。熔点109℃，沸点148℃（0.4kPa）。溶于醇和醚，微溶于水。在22℃时可溶于100份水中，在100℃时溶于14份水中。
生产方法: 由苯酚经酰化、转位而得。将苯酚和乙酰氯混合，缓缓加热直至氯化氢停止逸出，得到粗制的乙酸苯酯。加入硝基苯中，在冷却下投入三氯化铝，加完后在室温搅拌2-3h。然后倒入冷水中，加入1：3盐酸至清亮为止。用乙醚提取，再用提取液回收乙醚，然后进行水蒸气蒸馏，硝基苯及副产物邻羟基苯乙酮随时水蒸气蒸出，对羟基苯乙酮留在残液内。用乙醚提取残液，回收乙醚后冷却结晶即得粗品，用水重结晶即为成品。上述酰化操作可用乙酐代替乙酰氯，将苯酚与乙酐加热回流3h，即生成乙酸苯酯，收率约83%。在无水三氯化铝作用下转位也可不用溶剂。另外，将对氨基苯乙酮用亚硝酸钠重氮化、水解也可制得对羟基苯乙酮。
用途: 该品为有机合成中间体，用于香料的生产。对羟基苯乙酮也是一种利胆药。
