性质描述: 无色结晶性粉末。熔点238-240℃（分解）。能溶于热水、热醇和稀氢氧化钠溶液，微溶于水和醇，几乎不溶于醚和氯仿。无臭、无味。在干燥空气中稳定，在水中长时间煮沸或强碱中则被破坏。饱和水溶液的pH为5.5。
生产方法: 尿囊素存在于悄囊液，胎儿尿及一些植物中。但从这些物质中提取囊素成本太高。目前合成尿囊素的方法有：高猛酸钾氧化脲酸法：二氯乙酸与脲加热合成尿囊素；乙醛酸与脲直接缩合法。1.以二氯乙酸和脲为原料工艺过程如下：在反应罐内投入甲醇钠溶液和甲醇，加热至40-50℃，缓缓滴加二氯乙酸，加完后回流反应2h。冷至室温，过滤，甲醇洗涤，合并洗滤液，行二甲氧基酸钠甲醇溶液。将此溶液减压深缩至干，加入2.8份盐酸，于水浴上加热并搅拌成糊状。然后升温至90℃，再冷至10℃左右，过滤，小液加入0.25份盐酸与脲，加热溶解，于80℃反应2h。冷却结晶，再于0℃维持3h以上，离心、水洗、甩干、干燥得精品。粗品用15倍水重结晶后得尿囊素。对二氯乙酸的总收率30.3%。2.乙醛酸与脲直接缩合（乙醛酸由乙二醛经氧化而得）操作实例：（1）氧化在装有机械搅拌、冷凝器、温度计和滴液漏斗的500ml四口瓶中，加入193g（1mol）30%乙二醛水溶液，控制内温40±2℃搅拌下滴加135.5g（1mol）45%硝酸，加毕继续 在该温度搅拌反应2-3h，至红棕色氧化不再逸出，反应液呈蓝绿色即消失。换成简单蒸馏装置，在约2.76kPa、外温不超过60℃下蒸出水分约125g，浓缩液在室温静止过夜，析出之草酸结晶（干燥后得19g，合0.21mol），浓度为39%）。继续在内温40±2℃搅拌反应约8h，氧化反应即告完成。（2）缩合 在装有机械搅拌、冷凝器和温度计的500ml三口烧瓶中，加入上述150g乙醛酸水溶液，再加入170g（2.83mol）尿素和23.3g浓盐酸，搅拌下加热至内温达80℃。约15min后尿素溶解，反应物呈透明液，再过约30-45min，反应物出现白浊，继而白色沉淀渐渐增多，在内温80℃下搅拌1h，停止加热并将反应物冷却及室温，用布氏漏斗收集白色沉淀，冷水沉淀数次，即得粗品尿囊素。用1000ml蒸馏水重结晶。得白色细结晶尿囊素60-63%，溶点236℃（分解）。以乙二醛计，尿囊素得率为理论的38-40%（重量得率为103-108%）。
用途: 尿囊素具有促进皮细胞生长，使伤口迅速愈合的作用。用作抗溃疡药，与干燥氢氧化铝凝胶混和，用于消化道溃疡及炎症。该品又能软化角质素，使皮肤保持水分、滋润和柔软，是化妆品的特效添加剂。尿囊互及其衍生物还是许多日用化工产品的品质改良剂、添加剂。尿囊素蛋白质可配制抗刺激、抗头皮屑、清洁及使伤口愈合的头皮制剂，能使头发柔软，有光泽和弹性。该品是一种两性化合物，能结合多种物质形式复盐，具有避光、杀菌防腐、止痛、除臭、抗氧化作用，因此是日用化工产品，美容化妆品如雀斑霜、粉刺液、香波、肥皂、牙膏、刮脸洗剂，收敛液、抗汗除臭洗涤剂等的添加剂。尿囊素还是一种生化试剂。
