性质描述: 白色粒状或细粉。软化点100-130℃，相对密度1.07-1.18，折光率1.47。溶解度随纤维素中羟基被乙氧基取代程度而有不同。一般商品含乙氧基47%-48%。能溶于多数有机溶剂，能与树脂、油蜡及增塑剂混合，对碱和稀酸不起作用，不溶于水。乙基纤维素膜强韧，在低温下仍能保持充分柔软的特性，热稳定性好，不会受光的影响而变黄，很少有粘着感或发粘，尺寸、稳定性好，与蜡的相溶性好，燃烧时灰分极少，取代程度不同的各种乙基纤维素，性能也有差别。
生产方法: 用精制纸浆或棉绒与氢氧化钠制成碱性纤素。再在加压釜中使碱性纤维素与氯乙烷反应，将葡萄糖内的三个羟基全部或者一部分置换为乙氧基。反应产物用热水洗涤，干燥，即制得乙基纤维素。
用途: 乙基纤维素大量用于涂料。还可用作金属工件冲压的固体润滑剂的基本材料。在微型电路印刷中，乙基纤维素用作载色剂。在无线电工业中，用作高级绝缘材料，以及在保护涂层中作为特殊的薄膜，如火箭发射药的包复层。可作为电缆、纸张、纺织品等的热熔型粘胶剂和涂料，也可作挤出线的绝缘和作塑料的韧性增强剂。还可用于颜料研磨基料，用于印刷油墨，用于模压塑料粉，用于爆炸引信，以及用于维生素的配方等。用作金属零件在使用前防腐蚀、防毁损的可剥性保护层，还可用作保护易碎的玻璃器皿的可剥涂料。在胶粘剂，纺织和纤维，医药和食品，以及其它工业中，尚有多种用途。工业级乙基纤维素用于涂料（凝胶型涂料、热熔融涂料）、油墨（丝网印刷油墨、照相凹版刷油墨）、粘合剂、颜料糊等。高级品则用于医药、化妆品及食品方面，例如药物片剂包装材料、长效制剂用粘结剂等。

Ethyl cellulose is generated by converting a variable number of hydroxyl groups on the repeating glucose units to ethyl ether groups. Ethylcellulose is used in the preparation of biostructures such as matrices, microspheres, microparticles, pellets and tablets for use in drug delivery.
