性质描述: 黄色到橙黄色结晶性粉末。熔点282℃（分解）。稍溶于乙醇、环已醇、苯甲醇、乙酸，微溶于水，不溶于乙醚、氯仿、丙酮和苯。在酸性溶液中稳定，在碱性溶液中或受光照时者易被破坏。微臭，味微苦。
生产方法: 有很多合成方法，但以3，4-二甲基苯胺（见C8H11N，[95-64-7]）与D-核糖缩合，经催化氢化后与苯胺偶合，再与巴比妥酸环合制得核黄素的方法较好。
用途: 核黄素存在绿色蔬菜、黄豆、稻谷、小麦、酵母、肝、心及乳类中，核黄素在体内分布于各组织中，构成体内递补氢化系中的辅酶，参与氧化还原反应，起传递氢原子的作用。当核黄素缺乏时，就会影响生物氧化，使代谢发生障碍，引起的病变多发生于口、眼、外生殖器，如口角炎、唇炎、眼结膜炎、阴囊炎等。核黄素主要用作医药、食品添加剂和饲料添加剂，在药用方面，用于复合维生素或维生素B2制剂，还用作糖衣片和胶囊的黄色着色剂。在用作食品添加剂时，一方面有强化营养的作用，另一方面也作为黄色着色剂。大鼠腹腔注射LD50为560mg/kg。
