性质描述: 淡黄色结晶性粉末，带1分子结晶水，熔点241-243℃（在125-130℃失水并变红）。溶于醇、水，微溶于醚和氯仿。见光或露置空气中逐渐变色，能吸潮结块。
生产方法: 将苯二甲酸二乙酯与乙酸乙酯在金属钠存在下反应，生成苯并戊二酮甲酸乙酯，经酸化失羧生成苯并戊二酮，再氧化生成水合茚三酮。
用途: 该品是蛋白质、氨基酸及蛋白胨的灵敏试剂。该品高毒，小鼠腹腔注射LD50为78mg/kg。

应用
Reagent for determination of amino acids and amine containing compounds, as an intermediate.Ninhydrin is used for the determination of amino groups in amino acids, peptides and proteins. It finds application in forensic science for the analysis of latent fingerprints on porous surfaces such as paper. It is also used in thin layer chromatography (TLC) to monitor the progress of chemical reactions. In Kaiser test, it plays an important role to monitor the deprotection in solid phase peptide synthesis.
