性质描述: 浅黄至无色液体。有紫罗兰香味。溶于乙醇、乙醚、丙二醇，不溶于水和甘油。沸点140℃（2.4kPa），126-128℃（1.6kPa），相对密度 0.945，折射率1.5205，闪点112℃。
生产方法: 可从Boronia megastigma种子的挥发油中分离得到。化学合成可用柠檬醛与丙酮缩合制取：由柠檬醛与丙酮在稀苛性钠溶液中缩合，再用硫酸或磷酸环化得α-、β-紫罗兰酮。将α体分离后得β体。也可用异丁烯与甲基乙烯基酮制取。亦可用假紫罗兰酮在硝酸作用下环合制取。
用途: 用于日化、食品香精中，大量用于生产维生素A、E和胡罗卜素。
