性质描述: 白色蜡状固体。熔点28.20℃，沸点259℃，相对密度0.8015（20/4℃），折射率1.4421。溶于乙醇、乙醚、苯、氯仿和四氯化碳，难溶于水。
生产方法: 以月桂酸为原料在催化剂硅胶存在下通入氨气反应，生成物经水洗、干燥、减压精馏得月桂腈。将月桂腈在活性镍催化下加氢，即还原得十二胺。把月桂腈加入高压釜中，再加适量活性镍，通氮置换室内空气。在搅拌下加热至80℃，反复充氢直至不再吸收为止，保温反应3h。冷却，将所得粗品进行减压蒸馏，即得十二胺。
用途: 有机合成中间体，用于纺织及橡胶等助剂生产。也可用以制取矿石浮选剂、十二烷基季胺盐、杀菌剂、杀虫剂、乳化剂、洗涤剂和防治皮肤灼伤养津抗菌的消毒特效剂等。
