性质描述: 无色油状液体。熔点5.2℃，沸点262℃（102.1kPa），141℃（2.0kPa），相对密度0.8702（20/4℃），折光率1.4319。能与乙醇、乙醚、苯、丙酮混溶，不溶于水。
生产方法: 由月桂酸与甲醇酯化而得。将月桂酸、无水甲醇和浓硫酸的混合物加热回流18h，将反应倒入水中，分出酯层。依次用水、饱和碳酸氢钠溶液和水洗涤。经干燥后进行蒸馏，收集261-263℃馏分，即为十二酸甲酯，收率81%。
用途: 用作有机合成中间体。
